  1. Steve Says:

On a recent Friday night, 2 of us went to The Grog for dinner. I like the casual ambience. While somewhat typical in nature for a bar, it seemed just a bit more comfortable and quiet than other places. We sat upstairs in the non-smoking section, but our clothes smelled like smoke when we arrived home.

An appetizer of bacon wrapped and broiled shrimp was quite tasty and served hot. For dinner, I had the roast beef sandwich, which was only average at best. The fries were very good, but arrived only warm, not hot.
My companion’s quessidilla was very good.

Service should have been better. It started out well, with a drink order taken and delivered quickly. But after the dinner was served, we were completely ignored by the waitress. Our glasses were empty and she walked past us more than a dozen times without paying any attention to us whatsoever. This went on for about 15 minutes, while we waited to see just how many times she would ignore us before remembering we existed. Well, thirst got the better of us and we finally flagged her down.

This was our second visit to The Grog. The first was about the same as the second, but without being ignored. All in all, the food is good, though not spectacular, service is ok, and it’s a pleasant place to sit for an hour or so. But I wish I didn’t smell like smoke after sitting in the non-smoking section.

My husband and I went to the Grog for dinner on a recent Friday evening that we loved (loved!) the food. The previous poster was not exaggerating. My husband had the meatloaf with horseradish mashed potatoes and I had the filet on focaccia. They were both excellent - the meatloaf was the epitome of what this comfort food should taste like and my filet was done to a perfect medium rare (something you wouldn’t normally expect from bar food). We will definitely go back and bring friends!

I had a few drinks with some friends at the Grog. We stayed for about 3 hours in the early evening of a weeknight. My burger was delicous. The best burger I’ve had in a few years. Friendly service.

Food is awesome. We enjoy the Nachos, wings and the hot Roast Beef sandwiches. The staff are wonderful, and the owner is very nice and extremely hot!

Overall 5 star restaurant… I ate here earlier for lunch with a co-worker and had an amazing experience. The thing I loved most was they had an upstairs that was completely non-smoking and a lovely waitress as well… She was very attentive and the service was impeccable as our meals arrived in an instant and were very tasty… I had the soup of the day which was excellent.. the best I have had anywhere and my quesadilla was superb… My co-worker got their crab chowder which she loved and a burger as well… She had heard The Grog had great burgers but she could honestly say after eating here that it was the best burger she has ever had… even the roll she said was amazing.. we definitley have to come back one night or on the weekend with out families… I can’t believe we have not made this our regular weekly lunch spot… and I agree w/ Gold & Silver’s comments about the owner.. he was very charming as he greeted us and walked us upstairs… he even took our drink order and brought them right over to us and even took the time to stike up a conversation with us.. most owners are not as hands on as him and I was very impressed by they way he runs the place.. not to mention his good looks!!!

  8. Carmine Says:

I visited the Grog for the first time this weekend and it was a pleasant experience overall. I loved the bar atmosphere and my meal was delicious! I had a Grog Salad that was enormous- enough for 2 people and I also tried the soup which I was told was the best around and would say it lived up to my expectations. I met a couple of my girlfriends and we stayed longer than we thought we would which means we might make this a more regular spot. Also- loved the attentive bartneder and Blue Moon on draft!

  9. Jimmy Says:

    Terrible Service. Good food.

  10. Rosanne Reynolds Says:

Wonderful restaurant. Only complaint is that I would like to get the half orders for dinner.

  11. Patrick Says:

I went to The Grog with my brother and his girlfriend for lunch mid-week and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The Grog shrimp were cooked perfectly and the waitress was friendly without being annoying. I would like to try this place in the evening to see if it holds up.
