John Harvard’s Replacement Plans

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

The former John Harvard’s location in Wayne/Devon has been taken over by 2 seasoned pros/vets in the restaurant biz - Joe Carney (Carney’s Cape May) and Steve Finley (Finley Catering). Both partners, who live locally, are very excited about bringing their new concept to the Main Line . . . which will be a tailor fit to the market and location. Full press release after the jump.

Some good info on Villanova’s upcoming Maia (May 6!) in the Inquirer’s blog:

A Look at Maia

Dine the Line Next Week

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The Main Line’s version of Restaurant Week kicks off Monday with $30 3 or 4-course meals at places like Yang Ming, Bistro Cassis, Meridith’s and Cosimo. Personally, we’ve never found this “deal” to be a particularly good one, especially when the restaurant limits their menu, (plus, who orders 4 courses by themselves, ever?), but that shouldn’t stop you from trying out a new restaurant next week, if you are inspired.

Better Sports in Ardmore

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

J.R. Monaghan’s, a sports bar with 13 plasmas from the Brownie’s 23 East owner, recently opened at 30 E. Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore. Best part — it’s smoke free! Owner Joe Rufo suggests that Brownie’s might not be far behind on that front, assuming things go well here.

Stella Blu and the Return (sort of) of Bella Luna

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Conshohocken’s Stella Blu has retooled, updating their menu to move away from traditional Italian and focusing on small and large plates with a Euro flair. Nightly specials will feature fresh fish and premium grilled meats.

Also, the owners of Stella Blu and Gypsy Saloon (and former owners of Bryn Mawr’s Bella Luna) have opened Bella Luna Pizza Kitchen in Conshy, transforming the former Diuccio’s Pizza into an upscale spin on the traditional South Philly sandwich and pizza shop. All sandwiches are made with Boar’s Head meats and traditional South Philly seeded bread.

Yang Ming “Quick Take” Added

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Due to reader requests, we’ve added a page for Yang Ming reviews. Since we haven’t eaten there in several years, we kept this to a “quick take” review.

Enjoy!

Lew’s NY Deli Closed in Paoli

Monday, December 10th, 2007

After a short run, Lew’s NY Deli is closed in Paoli. Personally, we had hit or miss experiences there, loving the “Fancy Schmancy” and the “Einstein”, but not really liking the pastrami (there’s something wrong with that, of course).

At least we still have Murray’s!

Lew’s NY Deli Open in Paoli

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Lew’s is now open, and they have a website!

Wild Onion, We Hardly Knew Ye

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Actually, that’s not true at all. We knew you all to well — that’s why we stopped going. But alas, you are gone.

Flip & Bailey’s Bar & Grill is coming soon to the former Horace P. Jerky’s space in Garrett Hill, and to be honest, we aren’t yet sure whether this is an attempt to bring the space back to legitimacy, or simply an excuse to charge ‘Nova students a little more for Miller Lite. 24 draft beers and a non-smoking dining area sounds like a step in the right direction, but we’re not sure what to make of the “Membership Lounge”.
